Residential Energy Affordability Partnership (REAP) 

What is REAP?

The Residential Energy Affordability Partnership (REAP) is a free PSEG Long Island program for income-eligible customers designed to help them save energy and lower their electric bills. Participation in REAP can make your home healthier and safer. In addition, participants are guided to services from other organizations that can help with any special needs.

What Can I Expect ?

A REAP technician will visit your home or connect remotely and provide a FREE home energy survey or remote energy assessment. Depending on the results of the survey, the technician may install energy-saving measures...at no cost to you! In fact, all REAP services are provided at no cost to eligible customers. REAP technicians choose items that will make your home the MOST energy efficient.

You Are Eligible for REAP When:

  • You have a PSEG Long Island account number
  • You own or rent your house and it is your primary residence 
  • You have not participated in the REAP program within the last ten (10) years 
  • You meet the income guidelines ​

Free REAP Home Energy Survey and Efficiency Measures

During the home energy survey, the REAP technician will show you how to use energy more efficiently and inspect your electricity consuming equipment to determine how energy efficient they are, including: 

  • electric appliances (refrigerator; window room air conditioner; dehumidifier; air purifier) 
  • lighting
  • heating system

The technician will review your household’s energy habits and give you practical suggestions to help lower your energy costs, such as proper thermostat and water heater settings and using energy-saving settings on appliances. All of the information gathered during the home energy survey or remote energy assessment will help determine how much money you could save on your energy bills.

REAP Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I apply for REAP?
  • Click HERE to provide name, address and phone number for a call back from the REAP Customer Service Rep.

  • Or on the http://www.PSEGLINY.com website there is an “Apply Now” link in which the customer would fill out basic information such as account number, name, address, phone, email and how they heard about the Program. 

2. How do I qualify for REAP? 
Regardless of how a customer contacts the REAP program, a REAP Customer Service Rep will     reach out to the customer and perform a “prequalification” with the customer such as number in household, the total income of working household members to see if they meet the income guidelines. They are able to own or rent their primary residence and not have had a REAP visit in the last 10 years.  The REAP Customer Service Rep will schedule a visit at the customers convenience.

3. How do I meet Income guidelines? 
To meet income guidelines, the customer may provide the previous year tax return, W2, Pay Stubs, Social Security Disability Supplemental Security Income Award Letter, SNAP or HEAP Letter, Unemployment Award Letter, etc.  Please note:  there are not copies made at the time of the visit, only the information provided is entered into the REAP workbook and given back to the customer.


4. What has REAP provided other applicants who qualified under the program?

The REAP Program has provided qualified customers replacement of refrigerators, window room air conditioners, dehumidifiers, air purifiers, and replacement of incandescent bulbs with LEDs. For customers with electric domestic hot water heaters – replacement/installation of faucet aerators; low flow showerheads, thermostatic valves; pipe insulation and water temperature turndown.  All REAP participants are provided with a nightlight and smart strip.  The REAP field technician will also perform a Health & Safety inspection of the home and combustion safety testing.  For customers with natural gas, gas leak detections are performed in the home as well.  If there is a gas leak detection, National Grid is immediately called.
